Instructions for wearing contact lenses

  1. Soak new lenses in multipurpose solution for at least six hours, or overnight, before first wear.
  2. Wash your hands properly with soap and water before touching the lenses.
  3. Place the lens on your palm and rinse it with several drops of solution.
  4. Rinse again to remove all traces of the disinfecting solution it was stored in.
  5. Rest the lens on your index finger.
  6. Looking into a mirror, pull your lower eyelid down with the middle finger of the same hand.
  7. Hold your upper eyelid open gently with your other hand.
  8. Place the lens on your eye and blink a few times to settle it.
  9. Repeat on the other eye.

Tip: if the lens feels uncomfortable, remove it, inspect it for damage or debris, rinse with more solution and reapply.

Instructions for removing contact lenses

  1. Wash and dry your hands properly before touching your eyes.
  2. Look into the mirror and pull your lower eyelid down.
  3. Bring your index finger toward your eye until it touches the lower edge of the lens.
  4. Slide the lens down onto the lower white part of your eye.
  5. Pinch the lens gently between your thumb and index finger and lift it off.
  6. Repeat for the other lens.

Tip: to avoid mixing up your lenses, always insert and remove them in the same order — right first, then left.

Contact lens wearer must-knows

  • Cleanliness first — it is the single most important part of lens care, especially for yearly replacement lenses. Follow the maintenance routine every time.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting solutions kill the micro-organisms responsible for eye infections. Always use fresh solution and discard what is left in the case after each use.
  • Saline solution is for rinsing lenses only — it does not disinfect.
  • Daily cleaner: place a few drops in your palm and rub the lens gently for about 20 seconds, cleaning both sides.
  • Multipurpose solution cleans, rinses, disinfects and stores your lenses in one step.
  • An automatic lens cleaner device can simplify cleaning — clinically tested to be several times more effective than finger rubbing.
  • Lens case hygiene: rinse the case and caps in hot running water and replace the case at least every three months.
  • Use rewetting eye drops whenever your lenses feel dry.
  • Never sleep with your lenses in. The suggested wearing schedule is no more than 8 hours per day.
  • Never rinse or store lenses in tap water — it contains chlorine, minerals, metal particles and micro-organisms that can damage both the lens and your eye, leading to serious infections.

Don't panic if a lens seems lost in your eye

A contact lens can never get lost behind your eye. Blink a few times and it usually works itself back into view. If it doesn't, add a few rewetting drops, look up, down and side to side to move the lens, or gently massage your closed eyelid with a fingertip to reposition it. Still stuck? Remove it after it recentres, or contact us for help.

Makeup and lenses: the right order

Insert your lenses with clean hands before applying makeup. When removing makeup, wash and dry your hands, take the lenses out first, then remove the makeup.

Warning signs — remove your lenses immediately

If you develop unusual pain, stinging, redness, blurred vision, discharge or light sensitivity, remove your lenses right away. Discomfort can have many causes; if a lens is damaged in any way, do not put it back on your eye. If symptoms persist, consult an eye care professional.
